Australian Labradoodles: The Ultimate Companion

Most dogs in the world today are pets-- but not all dogs were originally bred to be pets. Labradors were bred to retrieve. Border Collies were bred to herd. Terriers were bred to chase and kill vermin. Huskies were bred to pull sleds. These instincts are powerful, and while they can be fascinating and even fun to work with, they don't always translate to easygoing, low-maintenance family dogs.

That's what makes the Australian Labradoodle so special.

This breed was intentionally developed not for a working job-- but for the role most dogs live today: loving companions in family homes. Their temperament, trainability, allergy friendly coat, and size were all carefully selected over generations to create a dog that thrives as a best friend, playmate, cuddle buddy, and sidekick.

It's more than okay for a dog's purpose to simply be a great pet-- it's beautiful. And that's exactly what we breed for: the ultimate family companion.

What makes a Labradoodle an Australian Labradoodle?

Australian Labradoodles are the result of a 3 breed combination: Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, and Cocker Spaniels. These 3 breeds were combined in the early 2000s in Australia. For the last 20-ish years, Australian Labradoodles have been bred only to other Australian Labradoodles to produce the multi-generational Australian Labradoodle we know & love today.

Appearance & Size

Australian Labradoodles come in a variety of sizes, ranging from mini (14 to 16 inches at the shoulder) to medium (17 to 20 inches) and standard (21 to 24 inches). Their coats can be wavy or curly, with a soft texture, and are available in a range of colors including cream, gold, caramel, red, black, chocolate and more! They also come in a range of patterns, including parti, phantom & roan.

Temperament

Known for their gentle and affectionate nature, Australian Labradoodles make excellent companions for families, singles, and seniors alike. They are particularly good with children and other pets. These dogs are highly trainable and eager to please, making them suitable for a variety of roles, including therapy and assistance work.

Health & Lifespan

With a lifespan of approximately 12 to 15 years, Australian Labradoodles are generally healthy dogs. Breeders are committed to maintaining the health of the breed through careful genetic testing and breeding practices, which help to minimize the risk of hereditary conditions.

Care & Grooming

This breed requires regular grooming to maintain their coat’s condition and prevent matting (we recommend a professional groom every 6-8 weeks). Regular exercise is also essential to keep them happy and healthy, as they are an energetic breed that thrives on activity and mental stimulation.
